(Updated) Fun things to do in Johor/Johor Bahru

Following our list on where to stay in Johor Bahru, here's a list of fun activities you and your family can engage in across the border! Whether it is visiting the theme parks, going to the farm, rock climbing or taking wacky photo shots, everyone gets to play and have FUN!

We are always on a look out for more fun places in Johor Bahru, do share with us if you know of any!

Enjoy the listing and we hope it will be helpful when you plan for your next road trip with your family. Please check prior to visiting as we understand some have ceased their operations after some time.


1. LEGOLAND MALAYSIA

Comprises of Legoland Park and Water Park, with more than 70 rides, slides, shows and attractions, the international theme park remains as the top pick for families to enjoy a fun-filled day over the weekend or short trip. Whether it is wet or dry activities, there is definitely something for the young and adult. Plus, Legoland Hotel is situated within the themepark where guests can return to rest comfortably after an exciting day at the park.

Our last visit to Legoland Malaysia was back in 2013 before the water park was opened. It has been awhile and we hope to bring the children to re-experience the theme park again soon.

2. AUSTIN HEIGHTS WATER & ADVENTURE PARK

Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park is the latest fun park to open in December 2015 at Mount Austin which comprises of a water park and an adventure park.

The adventure park consist of challenging rope course activities (sheltered and outdoor) which is suitable for youths and adults to raise your adrenaline level


The water park consists of wave pool, lazy river, assorted slides, playground and more where the whole family can enjoy a splashing day of excitement.

3. LASER BATTLE

Address: 4th Floor, InnerCity, Johor Bahru City Square, 108, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Johor Bahru, Johor 80000

Laser Battle - another fun zone within the shopping mall. Located on the 4th floor in the InnerCity zone of Johor Bahru City Square, this is suitable for older children, youths and adults. The games are physically and intellectually intensive, and a test of wits, reflexes and stamina.  Only 10 minutes into the game and we were quite tired out. A thrilling and exciting activity for families and friends to participate together.

4. GO-KART CIRCUIT

Address: Lot 1195, Jalan Bunga Matahari, Taman Plentong Baru, 81750, Johor Bahru

This is a real Go-Kart circuit, where you can experience the speed of driving without being caught for speeding. Located at Permas Jaya, many youths and adults like to drop by and enjoy a few rounds around the circuit course. Children are allowed on the tracks as well but parents have to closely supervise and monitor.

5. LOVE, FUN BAKING HOUSE
Address: 31 & 31 - 01, Jalan Austin Heights 8/4, Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru

At Love, Fun Baking House, you will experience DIY Baking from collecting the materials/ingredients, baking to cleaning up. A great place where children and adults can have hands-on experience at a really affordable price. It does not matter whether you are experienced or beginners, all are welcome to join in the fun! Plus, you get to bring home whatever you baked!

6. ROCKY BASECAMP

Rocky Basecamp - one of the first indoor climbing centre in Malaysia offers various climbing experience for children (4 years and above) to adults. Located conveniently within AEON Tebrau City, it has speed wall, lead wall measuring 15 meters and fun walls which are of state of art design and are about 10 meters high! If climbing is still not challenging enough, check out their Ninja Warrior obstacle course which is bound to rock you!

7. ZENXIN ORGANIC PARK

Address: Plot 47A & 47B, Batu 9, Jalan Batu Pahat, 86000, Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

Zenxin is the first open-to public organic farm in Malaysia. Occupying about 100-acres, it has a nursery, fruit farms, growing organically-grown vegetables and fruits, herbal garden, pet area, restaurant and an organic shop within. Visitors can choose to tour the farm by foot or by cycling and get to learn more about the crops and get up close to the animals. Do not forget to have a meal at their restaurant which serves organic meal made from freshly harvested produce from the farm.

8. MURAL STREET ART (KLUANG)
Address: Along Jalan Dato Teow Siew Khor, 86000, Kluang, Johor

Penang is famous for its Mural Street Art. Do you know that there is one in Kluang, if you do not wish to drive/travel too far? The theme of the paintings includes the unique traits of Kluang including coffee, train and its popular attractions

9. UK FARM AGRO RESORT

Address: Plot 8, Project Pertanian Moden Kluang, KM13 Jalan Batu Pahat, 86000 Kluang, Johor, Malaysia

Located slightly further than Zenxin Organic Farm, UK Farm offers various Farm Tour and Stay packages for visitors. Visitors get to have close encounters with the animals on the farm and the opportunities to feed them. If you are adventurous, take on the Sheep Challenge to see if you can 'catch' a sheep or get outrun by the sheeps.

10. CROCODILE FARM
Address: Lots 1289 & 1290, Jalan Sembilan, Kampung Belading, Teluk Sengat, 81940 Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia

Teluk Sengat Crocodile Farm is considered one of the larger ones in Malaysia, housing more than 1000 saltwater crocodiles species (Crocodylus Porosus). Apart from touring around the farm, seeing how the staff feed the reptiles, you also get to see crocodiles that are more 155 years old! Not forgetting tasting the crocodile herbal soup and get up-close physically with the crocodiles and taking pictures with them.

11. DESARU OSTRICH FARM

We have been to Desaru Ostrich Farm 3 times through our children growing years and we are always amazed by the largest ostrich farm in Malaysia with over 200 ostriches. You can find young baby chicks to adult full size ostriches here and have up close interactions with the ostrich. From feeding, riding and posing with them.

12. NICTAR SYMBIOSIS FARM

Nictar Symbiosis Farm is a theme farm that brings visitors closer to nature. They conduct educational and farm tours for bigger groups. Otherwise, the 1300 acres pineapple farm is open to public to walk-in and check out the farm products.

13. MOVIE GOING - CINEMAS IN JB
(Various: MBO Cinema, TGV Cinema, Golden Screen Cinema)

Going for movies is one of our common activity to do whenever we are in Johor Bahru. There are different cinema operators mainly - TGV Cinemas (AEON Tebrau City), MBO Cinemas (KSL City, AEON Bandar Dato Oon) and Golden Screen Cinema (Paradigm Mall). The cheaper ticket price, and variety of cinema theaters available never fails to lure us into spending hours to catch the latest show in town.

It is always not easy to run and maintain the business. While we have been to many fun places, many have also put up the shutters. Even though it may not be in operation any more, we would like to still share our previous fun experiences here as a memory.

1. MINI KUSO TRICK ART (CLOSED)

Care to bring back many memorable, wacky and fun photographs? Visit Mini Kuso Trick Art, a 3D gallery located at Taman Mount Austin. Area spanning across the top floor of a unit within the shophouse, their unique 3D paintings, props and magnetic boards brought hours of fun-filled experience for our family.

2. ZOOM PARK (CLOSED)

It is said that jumping on the trampoline helps to burn off calories. Trampoline jumping is not only a great workout but fantastic family activity for children and adult. At Zoom Park, you can jump into the foam pit, play basketball, climb the rock wall or perform stunts on the trampoline. The space is wide and spacious and you get hours of fun.

3. ESCAPE ROOM (CLOSED)

There are many real life escape games located conveniently within the shopping malls or shop houses. It has got popular over the years and many like to spare some time with their family or friends to join in the game to solve a series of puzzles and riddles in the attempt to escape from the locked room. Pretty exciting and it can be intense at times when the clock is tickling away and you have yet to find your way out.

4. UPSIDE DOWN WARM HOUSE (CLOSED)
Address: 5019, Jalan Kenari 1, Bandar Putra, 81000 Kulai, Johor

Opened in mid 2016, Upside Down Warm House is 3-storey house featuring 3D and 5D arts in an upside down setting, offering visitors yet another wacky photo taking experience. Release your imagination and get your head cracking thinking how your photos will turn out to be once you flip it over

5. DARK ART 3D STUDIO (CLOSED)
Address: 26A, 28A, Jalan Pulai Ria 9, Bandar Baru Kangkar Pulai, 81300 Johor

Compared to the Kuso and Upside Down Warm House, Dark Art 3D Studio is much smaller in size with about 20 over pieces of artworks. Whats unique about Dark Art? It is a gallery where the lighting will switch between normal and luminous effect. When the background is changed into luminous lighting, visitors can view a different visual effect in the 'night' scene. That also means two different photos from a single artwork.

6. ANGRY BIRDS ACTIVITY PARK (CLOSED)

Located within Komtar JBCC, the 26,000 sq feet activity park is packed with fun games to keep the children entertained for many hours. Whether it is driving the go kart, having a game of soccer, going through the laser maze or having a shot at the shooting gallery, kids and adults get to enjoy a great workout while having fun! As Angry Birds Activity Park is situated within the shopping mall in the heart of the city, which is very close to Woodland Checkpoint, it is easily accessible.

Our family visited the activity park twice, once in 2014 and 2015. Both visits were filled with fun and the kids love it!

7. DRIFT IN AUSTIN (CLOSED)

You won't miss the Drift track as it is located prominently outside the entrance of Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park. Experience the new drifting sensation in go-kart where you can twirl at turns.

8. BIG BOSS N LAND (CLOSED)

Located on level 2 of Perling Mall, Big Boss N Land is a career-building theme park where children have fun role-playing and learn to gain independence, confidence and teamwork. There are more than 40 occupations to choose spreading across 2 sessions. Although it is of a smaller scale, our kiddos enjoyed themselves tremendously in the edutainment concept park.

9. 5D ART STUDIO (CLOSED)

GOH 5D Art Studio at Kulai is our 4th trick art studio that we visited. Optical illusion is presented by paintings on plain surfaces, taken at different angles. You can create different photo effects simply by the different poses and the position and angle it was captured. There are more than 30 interesting backdrops to challenge your imagination.

10. ROCKWORLD (CLOSED)

Want to challenge yourself on the vertical walls? Rockworld provides children, youths and adults a space where you can climb to your heart desire. You also get to learn how to be a belayer and grab a few tips from the trainer.

Wow! So many places to check out in JB! We've only been to Legoland and Puteri Harbour Family Theme Park. My kids will surely love the Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park.

My children a little too old for Puteri Habour Family theme park.. too bad we didnt bring them there when there were younger.. Austin Height will be suitable for older kids! :)

Oh there's an Escape Room there too! I'm sure it's much cheaper than in Singapore! Well well... so many things to do in JB how to resist not going ah??? I have to share this with the hubby!

There are many Escape room in JB - branded under different names. The one we visited is just one of them. :) It is pretty enjoyable to cross the border for a staycation!

Nice sharing! Just a little updated info for the crocodile farm. It's the biggest in West Malaysia, but not the biggest in Malaysia. The biggest crocodile farm in Malaysia belongs to Jong's Crocodile Farm in Kuching, Sarawak (http://www.jongscrocodile.com/the-farm/ ).
