Dr. Bronner Pure-Castile Liquid Soap

[Review]

I always welcome organic soaps particularly since my children and myself have sensitive skin and we get rashes pretty often especially during hot weathers. Sometimes the itch and irritation is so unbearable that I could not get a good night sleep.

Some commercial liquid soaps that I have tried sometimes make my skin feel drier and did not help to relief my rashes. When I was introduced to Dr Bronner Pure Castile Liquid Soap, I was looking forward to trying it out with my family.

Handcrafted by the Bronner family for 5 generations, Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Soaps are USDA 100% Certified Organic. Made from pure, natural base plant ingredients, the combination of mainly coconut oil, jojoba oil, extra virgin oil and pure aromatic essential oils, helps to nourish the skin and relieves it from harmful chemicals.

A bottle of Dr Bronner Pure-Castile Soap has many usages (18 in fact). From soap bath, foot bath, dish washing, hand cleaner, to washing clothing, toilets and many others. There are 8 fragrances to pick from and we chose Lavender and Peppermint.

Lavender Soap - Best for skin troubled with eczema, acne and skin burns with minor infection and abscess. Bathing in Dr. Bronner's Pure-Castile Lavender Soap helps in a good night sleep.

Peppermint Soap - Cooling freshness of peppermint that helps to rejuvenate a stressed-out soul. Simply shiok in this hot, humid weather. Peppermint oil is an excellent astringent and anti-septic to help soothe and tone mildly irritated skin. Used in massages for its cooling and soothing effect.

We have tried using Dr Bronner Pure-Castile Liquid Soap for showering, washing of our hands and wiping the surfaces.

Hand washing - Wet your hands and put a drop or two of soap on your hands and rub your hands. It leaves a nice fragrance and moisturizes the skin.

Showering - We love to use Dr. Bronner Pure-Castile Peppermint Soap for shower as it leaves a cooling freshness on our body! The minty scent also rejuvenate our minds, particularly after a long day at work or school. It is not as bubbly on the hands but lathers better with a bath pouf.

Wiping of surfaces - Lately, I have also explored dripping a drop or two on my wet cloth and used it to wipe the surfaces and stove top. It wipes cleanly and leaves a nice fragrance after which.

There are other uses of Dr Bronner Pure-Castile Liquid Soap that I didn't try mainly because I still feel it is a soap product and wasn't comfortable using it to wash fruits/vegetables and as a toothpaste and mouth wash. Otherwise, we enjoy using it for our shower and hand wash. It nourishes and did not cause any irritation to our skin.  The 8 oz bottle lasted more than a month and it is very economical.

Dr Bronner's soaps are available at Nature's Glory and you can visit their website to check out their products and place your orders online. The liquid soap are packaged in 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic bottles and you can bring the used bottles for refilling at Nature's Glory to reduce waste and enjoy rebates! That's environmental friendly and cost savings!

Face to Face Noodle House 面对面 @ City Square Mall

[Media Invite]

'Eat Face to Face!!' - I like the punchline for the new noodle house at City Square Mall. (The pronunciation of "面" could mean noodles or face. So I would guess there will be various interpretations on how you face to eat your noodles). Face to Face, originated in Sarawak, began its culinary heritage since 1903 and has expanded to 30 outlets in Malaysia. During the Edu-tainment Trail at City Square Mall earlier this month, our family had the opportunity to taste the chewy sarawak noodles and the various pan mee creations by Face to Face.

Located on the 2nd floor of the Eco-friendly Mall, the new flagship store has already attracted many customers to try out their handmade noodles and it was pretty crowded during lunch hours.

Denver & Gladys seated and awaiting for their food to arrive.

Black Pepper Pork Chop Pan Mee - Our girl picked this as she likes the juicy pork meat with black pepper sauce. Decent portion of serving and Gladys commented that the bowl has a big piece of meat.

Genki Herbal Chicken Soup - Normally I have a preference for dry noodles, but this time I decided to go for soup noodles as I adore herbal chicken. The noodles appears to be mee sua, thin and chewy. Chicken meat is tender and the herbs have infused into the meat giving it a nice aroma and taste. I only find the soup a little too salty and it would be perfect if the herbal flavour is thicker.

Creation Pork Pan Mee - Ordered this for Hubby where it is served with wantan crisp, pork meat balls and topped with minced pork, cooked in signature gravy. A colourful combination and looks appetizing.

Curry Chicken Pan Mee - Our older boy has a liking for spicy food and this bowl of curry chicken noodle was his pick. A delightful combination of mini potatoes, beancurd sheets, toufu puffs plus his favourite curry chicken. He slurped his soup and finished every bit of it.

Face to Face also served hot and cold drinks and we ordered Honey Lemon (suitable for those who enjoy extra sweetness), Three Musketeers (a nice combination of sour and sweet), Longan Ribena and their Iced Signature Organic Coffee which is sweet, fragrant and revitalizing.

If you want value-for-money, look out for their value sets which includes a selected noodle dish plus a drink at $9.90 or value combo meals which includes a selected noodle dish, a drink plus a snack at $10.90. It is affordable, plus there's no service charge. Would love to be back again to try out their other popular dishes - Hot & Spicy Pan Mee which has an onsen egg within and goes with their house special dry chilli. Hubby and our boy should like it!

Myeong Dong Korean BBQ Buffet @ Mount Austin

We were back in Johor Bahru (once again) earlier this March for a quick weekend getaway. Recently, we have been exploring the cuisine around Mount Austin as the area has gradually developed into another food heaven!

We chanced upon Myeong Dong Korean Restaurant which offers All You Can Eat BBQ buffet at an attractive price. RM22 for Adult (less than SGD 8) and RM12 for children (~ SGD4.50). I was a little skeptical about it but we were attracted by the pricing and decided to give it a try.

Taking the flight of stairs up, we stepped into Myeong Dong. The space is not very big and it was pretty crowded during dinner time. The major setback during our visit then was the heat. The air-condition seems to have broken down and the entire restaurant felt like a furnace. While there were fans to help ventilate and cool the area, it was not enough.

While waiting for our seats, it is also visibly noticeable that the restaurant is short-handed. The food selection displayed on the counter tops is limited and it took some time to refill. Even the cutlery and bowls were all taken and diners have to wait for the clean ones to be put out.

It may sound disappointing but for the price that we are paying, we would love to try out the food still.

Let's have a quick look at the food section

Kimchi soup, rice, noodles and bottles of chilli sauce. It would be nice if homemade sauces were served instead.

Green/vegetable section

Meat section - If you are a big fan of pork, this may be to your liking as it is an all pork selection in the trays. It comes with different cuts and marinated in different sauces

(Green Tea Pork, Marinated Pork BBQ, Spicy Sauce Pork, Pork Shoulder, Garlic Pork, Wine Pork, Curry Pork, Pork Belly)

We finally got our seats, grabbed whatever meat that is left in the trays and Hubby started bbq-ing. We got some kimchi soup and started heating it up as well. You can choose to put the noodles in to make some kimchi noodles too.

BBQ-ing in process.

Our all pork meal

Drinks are not inclusive in the buffet price, hence you can order them from the menu.

All diners get to have one free cup of ice-cream. Diners can pay RM1 for each additional cup of ice-cream.

Overall, we had a satisfying meal. We did not mind waiting a little longer for the cutlery and food to be refilled. The food tasted fine and it was filling. There are definitely areas that Myeong Dong is lacking, and the food selection is limited, but we are not complaining as the price is really cheap. My only discomfort is the hotness dining at Myeong Dong, if only the air-condition is working, we do not mind re-visiting again for another meal. Hopefully, there will be improvements in our next visit.

Poh Cheu - Handmade Ang Ku Kueh

We don't usually travel too far from our neighbourhood, but when we do, we try to look for good food. Last month, we took a ride down to Bukit Merah and saw a long queue forming outside this stall selling assorted kueh. Out of curiosity, we decided to join in the crowd.

It took us about 25 minutes before we were able to place our orders. While waiting, our eyes were at the colourful display of kueh at the counter. There's rice cake, yam cake, soon kueh, abacus, glutinous rice and more!

I am more interested in their handmade Ang Ku Kueh which comes in assorted flavours! Apart from the traditional peanut filling, there is coconut, mango, black sesame, durian, yam, green tea, red bean, salted bean and even coffee!

After much hesitation, we finally placed our orders. Their handmade soon kueh and ang ku kueh are very popular, hence it is a must try.

Basically, we love all the kueh from Poh Cheu. The rice kueh and soon kueh are tasty with lots of fillings within. Still, my vote goes to their traditional peanut filling Ang Ku Kueh. The skin is thin and the filling is full. I like the texture and it is definitely one of the better Ang Ku Kueh that I have tasted so far.

Usually I don't like to join in long queues, but I don't mind coming back again for their Ang Ku Kueh if we are around the area.

Review: Gingen Instant Ginger Drink

I always love ginger drink, not only it warms the body, helps in digestion, I feel rejuvenated after a drink. There are many articles stating the benefits of ginger which includes helping to get rid of nose and throat congestion, improve blood circulation, relief nauseous, stress and the list goes on.

Recently, we received some packets of Gingin Instant Ginger drinks. A relative new brand for me and we decided to give it a try.

Product Information - Gingin Instant Ginger Drink is made with white ginger, which is found in northern Thailand. The gingers used are of 12 months old - the prime age to use and harvest its properties. The beverage has a very high ginger concentrate. 10kg of fresh ginger is used to make 1kg of ginger extract. It contains no preservatives or artificial colourings.

Gingin Instant Ginger Drink comes in 4 flavours to suit varied preferences. Over the past few months, we have tried them and here's our thoughts.

100% Ginger (No Sugar) instant drink is naturally stimulating, combined a soothing taste of ginger, without the mixture of additives. This is perfect for Hubby, who dislike sweet drinks, as it contains no sugar.

For a sweeter option, I would go for Ginger with Brown Sugar (75% Ginger) as brown sugar is added to the mix and I get a balance of ginger and sweetness. I usually like to have it cold in the afternoon which makes me feel more refresh.

After a heavy meal, we will also make a cup of Strong Ginger Formula (80% Ginger) to aid in our digestion. It is slightly sweet and relieving for our stomachs.

The children, on the other hand, prefer the Ginger with Honey drinks which contains 69% of Ginger. Our boy enjoyed its sweetness plus the invoking ginger flavour which is revitalizing for him after a long day at school. Particularly with the examination going on these 2 weeks, a cup of ginger drink soothes his body and mind and he likes to make a cup to keep him company as he revises.

Gingin Instant Ginger Drink is Halal-certified and caffeine-free which is suitable for all ages. I like it that you can choose to make your ginger drink hot or cold, particularly suitable for our hot and humid weather conditions.

If you like to try some ginger instant drinks, Gingin are available at Cold Storage, FairPrice, Giant, Mustafa, Prime, RedMart.com & Sheng Siong.
