Rediscover Singapore Stories with Sands of Time (Sentosa)

Last weekend, we visited the Sands of Time exhibit at Siloso Beach to rediscover the Singapore Story, told through a 100m-long sand sculpture display. There were food, toys and old time games at the Sapphire Pavilion bringing us back to the 60s.

We were lucky to catch the mascots in action and Gladys had her photo shot with her favourite Merlion.

Would this be Singapore's famous Chilli Crab Mascot?

Sands of Time is a multi-sensory exhibition featuring seven main 3D sculptures, ranging from 3 to 4.2 metres tall, and a 2D sand mural showing significant moments in Singapore's history and evolution to the flourish city it is today.

The first sculpture brings us back to the moment where late Mr Lee (then Prime Minister) announced on 9 August, 1965, Singapore being separated from the Malaysian Federation. Singaporeans were riveted by the news as they listened to the live broadcast of the statement over the radio and television.

A year later, Singapore celebrates it's first year of independence. The National Day Parade became an annual tradition since then.

Singapore began to progress as we saw the streets emerging, houses were built and very soon heartlands were formed.

Tourist spots began to sprout and Sentosa is a key tourism icon in Singapore.

We witnessed the growth of Singapore within a short span of 50 years. From a fishing village to a metropolis with beautiful city skyline, clean streets and gardens surrounds us.

We are Singaporeans. Multi-cultural with international cuisines and understanding the same language/dialect. We name this our homeland - Singapore.

Very nice sand sculptures. What a pity that we didn't see them!

We have not seen any sand structures before, but these art works are very realistic!

Wish we didn't miss this, the sculptures are so impressive and must have taken a lot of work especially with the terrible wet weather that week.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Cheers

Ahhhhh we went for this preview before it was officially launched. I must say I wasn't keen to see sand sculptures initially but a chat with Joo Heng, the man behind this project, got me respect the work they've done for this sg50 commemoration. They've extended the showcase actually! Today is the last day!

I missed it :( Too many things that are needed to be done. Should have brought the kids on a weekday. I have been lazy this term and never really go out play in the afternoons after school.
