~ 3D2N Johor Bahru Food Trail - Day 1 (Part 3) ~

As the sun sets, we drove out to Senibong Malay Village which is about 5 minutes drive from 8 Days Boutique Hotel. Tucked quietly in Permas Jaya, Kampung Senibong has a few seafood restaurants within offering dinning by the Straits of Johor.

Usually we avoid driving in the nights and this was a rare exception as it was not too far away from the hotel. The drive-in to Kampung Senibong is pretty isolated and our immediate concern was safety. We were slightly relieved to see a carpark gantry and the spacious parking area for cars. (Note: There is a parking fee of RM2.)

Puffy clouds in the purplish sky and we can vividly see Singapore - our homeland across the Straits.

Entering the kampung, you would not miss the assorted seafood on display. Crabs, lobsters, clams, prawns, squid, fish and more. The area is not as big as I thought (or did we missed any turn?) . Within 10 minutes, we completed our little walk-through in the village.

Assorted seafood on display. Alaska Crab can be found here too.

All the seafood restaurants at Senibong have strategic view of the Straits of Johor, overlooking Singapore. Not knowing which restaurant serves better seafood, we decided to tikam and go for Selera Senibong Seafood, the stall nearest to the entrance. (mainly because of the interior deco and cleanliness looked more appealing to me.)

Seated outdoors and enjoying the sun-setting moments as we await for our food to arrive.

We were puzzled to see a small tray of otah on our table even though we did not order any. According to the waitress, they will charge based on the amount that we take. :) Luckily we did not make any assumption that it was a complimentary dish for diners. ^_^ We ordered 4 simple dishes to go with our rice. Stingray, stir-fry broccoli with prawns and mushroom, butter prawns and squid.

Since Gladys cannot take spicy food, we asked for less chili in the squid and stingray dish. Big mistake as the stingray ended up tasting too sweet and the squid being too bland for our liking. It just did not taste right without a bit of spice to perk up our taste bud!

Luckily, the butter prawns made up for the meal. As expected, that was also our favourite, thanks to the sweet crispy crust and prawns which is palatable with the rice. Generally, it was a fairly decent seafood meal with no wow factor though. Our total bill was about RM130+ which seems a bit too steep.

Generally, it was an experience visiting Kampung Senibong although I believe we would have love it more if our dinner was more satisfying.
