One of the challenges we started to face is getting Gladys to go out. We have been walking a lot for the past few days and Gladys dreads it. She enjoyed the comfort of staying in the hotel room, with the big bed, the TV programs and the all-day and night air-conditioned room. She even started questioning why we keep going out to eat? Well, we managed to persuade her to tag along, half carrying and half walking. hehehe.
I guess it's still pretty early and we don't see many people on the streets yet. Thanks to my ex-colleague who provided me with a list of where to makan in Ipoh, Hubby and I managed to do our last minute planning last night. We located our way to our first destination - Dimsum at Yoke Fook Moon restuarant.

As soon as we sat down, the staff will start to take our drinks order and carry plates of dimsum before us to pick and choose. As you can see, we grabbed a couple to share. Egg tarts, Siew Mai, Char Siew Bao, Har Gau, Zhu Chang Fen, Yam Ball, Glutinuous rice chicken, porridge and many more. They have a wide variety of dimsum and we were spoilt for choices. Total spending : RM93.50
Denver craves for more egg tarts even after such a heavy breakfast! So, we went further down and bought an egg tart for RM1.60 at the dimsum counter of Foh San Restaurant. It is located along the same street as Yoke Fook Moon and the restaurant looks much bigger & classier with the entire place packed with people! If you like to have some Dimsum in Ipoh, I believe this should be the place to be.
Thanks to Hubby's GPS which we brought along for this trip. we managed to locate our next destiation very quickly - Sin Eng Heong which is famous for it's Kaya Puff.

If this was not recommended by a friend, we would definitely have missed this hidden gem as it looked just like other normal biscuit shops. There were already customers ordering the kaya puffs which were freshly baked from the oven. Trays of golden brown puffs laid on the table and we decided not to give it a miss. We had a taste of the Kaya puff and it was warm, crispy, flaky and sweet as you bite through the kaya filling. Yummy!!
According to the staff, the kaya puffs can be kept for a week. We bought a few boxes (in 10s) and small packs (in 5s) at RM0.80 each back for personal consumption and as gifts. Besides kaya puffs, Sin Eng Heong also sells other pastries like wife biscuits, heong piah, mini mooncakes etc.

Due to our heavy stomach, we are definitely not ready to stuff in more food. So we gave the salted chicken (about RM17 per bird) a miss this time round. Anyway, the shop wasn't opened when we arrived so we cannot packet it back too. Aweeeee....

Funny name? But don't underestimate this shop as it serves really soft, smooth and delicious soya bean curb. One of the best I have eaten so far! The shop is open at 10:30AM until sold out. We saw drivers parked their cars outside the shop while they enjoy the soya bean curb on the spot. The locals also queue up for the soya bean milk for takeaways. Definitely a not to be miss if you are in Ipoh.
Ipoh is truely a place to be in to enjoy good food.
